Recommendations for Rcd Ground Fault Detector Trip Thresholds

چکیده
Photovoltaic (PV) ground faults have caused many fires in the U.S. and around the world. Recently, the American PV industry has discovered a blind spot in fuse-based ground fault detection that has spurred a transition to a number of alternatives traditionally used in European markets. This paper investigates the repeatability of one of these methods, residual current detection (RCD), using historical field data from 340 utility-scale inverters in a large 170 MW installation. The distributions of leakage current magnitudes for the inverters is calculated for one year to determine a statistical RCD trip metric that minimizes unwanted tripping but increases the sensitivity of ground fault detection. The RCD current transients were also studied to determine the efficacy using the derivative of RCD current to detect high impedance ground faults

Recommendations for CSM and Riso Ground Fault Detector Trip Thresholds
PV ground faults have caused many fires in the U.S. and around the world. One cause of these fires is a “blind spot” in the ground fault ground fault fuse.. As a result of this discovery, the Solar America Board for Codes and Standards identified a number of alternatives to ground fault fuses, but these technologies have limited historical use in the United States. This paper investigates the e...
متن کاملSeismic Fragility Assessment of Steel SMRF Structures under Various Types of Near Fault Forward Directivity Ground Motions
In this paper, the seismic collapse probability of special steel moment-resisting frame (SSMRF) structures under near fault pulse-like and far fault ordinary ground motions is evaluated through fragility analysis. For this purpose, five sample frames with 3 to 15 stories are designed and imposed to the ground motion excitations with different characteristics. Fragility curves are derived for th...
متن کاملApplying the Metapattern Mechanism to Time Sequence Analysis
This paper reports an application of the metapattern mechanism (Shen, Ong, Mitbander and Zaniolo 1994) to analyzing time sequence data for semiconductor process control and fault-detection. The challenge of this task includes the high-dimensionality and large quantity of data, several types of uncertainties in measurements, and lack of effective machine learning tools for time sequence analysis...
متن کاملInvestigation of seismic damage index due to water level changes in reservoir through nonlinear dynamic analysis under Far-Fault and Near-Fault ground motions
In this study, reservoir water level effects on nonlinear dynamic response of concrete gravity dams are investigated. For this purpose, the nonlinear behavior of the dam concrete is captured using the concrete damage plasticity (CDP) on the non associated flow rule assumption. Water in the reservoir is represented by the Lagrangian (displacement-based) fluid finite elements. The program ABAQUS ...
متن کاملAssessment of Near-Fault Ground Motion Effects on the Fragility Curves of Tall Steel Moment Resisting Frames
Nowadays it is common to use the fragility curves in probabilistic methods to determine the collapse probability resulting from an earthquake. The uncertainties exist in intensity and frequency content of the earthquake records are considered as the most effective parameters in developing the fragility curves. The pulse-type records reported in the near-fault regions might lead to the major dam...
